Founder & Executive Director
Olaniyi Aluko founded Brightsteps Foundation with a distinct mission: to bridge the gap between potential and opportunity for Black, Afro-Caribbean, immigrant, and low-income youth. Drawing from his journey from Nigeria to Colorado, Olaniyi recognized that every child's success relies on a steady mentor and a stable home.
"We don't just pair a student with a volunteer for homework help. We train mentors, support families facing housing challenges, and build systemic pathways to college and careers."
Mentors who reflect and respect every student's heritage.
Protecting families from eviction so children thrive.
Using every gift faithfully to uplift community youth.
How a grassroots commitment in Denver, Colorado evolved into a comprehensive youth empowerment continuum.
In 2018, Olaniyi Aluko observed that many talented Black, Afro-Caribbean, and immigrant students in Colorado were falling through systemic cracks due to language barriers, economic strain, and a lack of relatable mentors.
Rather than settling for temporary fixes, Olaniyi designed a multi-tiered ecosystem. He established the **Mentor Excellence Academy** to certify professional volunteers, launched **English Language Support** for multilingual families, and integrated **Housing Stability & Family Support** to ensure students never lose their homes while pursuing their education.
Consistency matters. We support our mentors through training and Step 7 recognition so they stay for years.
A child cannot study effectively if eviction threatens their home. We support the entire family unit.
Every dollar donated and hour volunteered is treated with total transparency, integrity, and accountability.
